NEW GUIDE TO BOOST ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND GREENHOUSE GAS REDUCTIONS

Evaluating the savings from industrial energy efficiency actions just got easier with the release today of a comprehensive new guide by the Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism, the Hon  Martin Ferguson MP.

"The Energy Savings Measurement Guide will assist companies to more effectively estimate, measure, evaluate and track energy savings generated from the implementation of energy efficiency opportunities," Minister Ferguson said.

An Australian first, the best practice Guide will assist companies meet the key assessment and reporting requirements of the Energy Efficiency Opportunities program, which requires companies using more than 0.5 petajoules of energy a year to undertake energy efficiency opportunity assessments and report publicly on the results. It will also assist companies to measure the energy and greenhouse savings available to them in a carbon constrained world.

"Measuring and evaluating energy savings is a complex business," Minister Ferguson said.

"We understood that capacity needed to be built in this area, if industry was to achieve the energy efficiency gains required to meet greenhouse gas reduction targets and enhance industrial productivity."

The practical Guide has been compiled as a resource that industry can use for drilling down into specific aspects of energy efficiency opportunity management. The Guide has worked examples from a range of different industries to demonstrate how to quantify the whole of business costs and benefits of energy efficiency opportunities.

"By following the concepts outlined in the Guide, companies will be better able to produce investment quality information on which to base their key decisions, and report accurately on the energy savings," Minister Ferguson said.

The Guide will be released to industry at the upcoming Energy Efficiency Opportunities workshops in:
