The Australian Government today welcomed the announcement by Esso Australia Resources Pty Ltd that the Kipper gas project has been approved by the joint venture for development.
Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson said that natural gas is an important part of Australia’s future clean energy mix and new supply from Kipper will add to healthy competition in the gas market and help meet growing demand across Eastern Australia.
This $1 billion investment by Esso and its joint venture partners, BHP Billiton and Santos, will also contribute significantly to jobs and the local economy in Gippsland.
The project illustrates how industry and governments can work together to attract investment, deliver jobs and improve the nation’s energy security while at the same time actively tackling climate change and protecting the local environment.
