Policy Transition Group Concludes Consultations

19 November 2010

The Australian Government's Policy Transition Group (PTG) has today concluded face to face consultations with industry on the implementation arrangements for the Government's proposed resource taxation reforms.

Today's consultation session in Melbourne focussed on exploration incentives. It follows previous consultation sessions held in Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney.

The PTG's co-chairs, Resources and Energy Minister, Martin Ferguson AM MP and Mr Don Argus AC said that the consultation sessions had been very constructive.

As part of the consultation process the PTG also received a large number of written submissions on the technical design issues associated with the implementation of the Minerals Resource Rent Tax (MRRT) and the extended Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT).

Those submissions for which publication permission has been granted by the author have now been published on the Future Tax website www.futuretax.gov.au/pages/resourcetax_PTG_submissions.aspx

The PTG will continue its consideration of submissions and the information provided as part of the face to face consultation process and intends to provide a final report to the Treasurer by the end of the year.
