Audience members from the Oprah Winfrey Show have begun their journey discovering the food, wine and landscapes of the Hunter Valley.
Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP said that Tourism Australia, in partnership with Tourism New South Wales and industry partners, has put together a truly exciting program of activities to showcase the world class tourism experiences on offer in the Hunter Valley.
“Audience members have the opportunity to experience the spectacular scenery and impressive food and wine on offer in this popular regional centre,” Minister Ferguson said.
“Activities will offer our American visitors a taste of Australian life with everything from winery tours to tastings, and many more highlights to look forward to over the next few days.
“The Hunter Valley is one of Australia’s increasingly popular tourism locations, and one of the most accessible escapes destinations being situated so close to Sydney. The local produce and scenic vistas will now be on display again as part of this important visit.”
Joel Fitzgibbon MP, Member for Hunter, extended a very warm welcome to the audience members and invited them to make the most of the Hunter’s genuine hospitality.
“Oprah’s audience members are in for an absolute treat during their visit here in the Hunter Valley,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.
“Yesterday audience members had the opportunity to visit two outstanding local vineyards and enjoyed a relaxing dinner in a region that is home to some of the world’s finest wines.
“Tourism generates $14 billion dollars for New South Wales’ economy. With the strong economy and high Australian dollar more Australians are choosing to holiday overseas at the same time that more international visitors are coming to Australia.
“Oprah’s Ultimate Australia Adventure will encourage more visitors to Australia but it will also remind Australians that some of the best holiday destinations in the world can be found right here in our own back yard.
“I encourage more Australians to head to the Hunter Valley for their holidays and follow in the footsteps of Oprah’s audience.”
