Audience members from the Oprah Winfrey Show have begun their journey discovering the iconic sights, sounds and tastes of Sydney.

Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP said that Tourism Australia, in partnership with Tourism New South Wales and industry partners, has put together a truly exciting program of activities to showcase the world class tourism experiences on offer in Sydney.

“Audience members have the opportunity to experience the spectacular scenery, world famous icons and bustling vibe of Sydney,” Minister Ferguson said.

“Activities will offer our American visitors a taste of Australian city life with everything from tours to shopping, surfing to sailing, and many more highlights to look forward to over the next week.

“Sydney is one of Australia’s most iconic tourism destinations and will now be on display again as part of this important visit.”

Tanya Plibersek, Member for Sydney, extended a very warm welcome to the audience members and invited them to make the most of New South Wales’ genuine hospitality.

“Oprah’s audience members are in for an absolute treat during their visit here in Sydney, culminating in the filming of two shows at the Opera House next Tuesday,” Ms Plibersek said.

“Yesterday audience members had the opportunity to tour the Opera House, the Rocks and Darling Harbour as well as meeting some of our fabulous native animals at Taronga Zoo.

“Tourism generates $14 billion dollars for New South Wales’ economy. With the strong economy and high Australian dollar more Australians are choosing to holiday overseas at the same time that more international visitors are coming to Australia.

“Oprah’s Ultimate Australia Adventure will encourage more visitors to Australia but it will also remind Australians that some of the best holiday destinations in the world can be found right here in our own back yard.

“I encourage more Australians to head to Sydney for their holidays and follow in the footsteps of Oprah’s audience.”
