Audience members from the Oprah Winfrey Show have begun their journey discovering the magnificent sights, sounds and tastes of Perth and Fremantle.
Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP said that Tourism Australia, in partnership with Tourism Western Australia and industry partners, has put together a truly exciting program of activities to showcase the world class tourism experiences on offer in Western Australia.
“Audience members have the opportunity to experience the spectacular scenery, coastline and the relaxed charm of Perth and Fremantle,” Minister Ferguson said.
“Activities will offer our American visitors a taste of Australian life with everything from an Indigenous walking tour to a scenic helicopter flight and beachside fish and chips, with many more highlights to look forward to over the next few days.
“Western Australia boasts some of Australia’s most iconic coastline, as well as world class local food and wine and it will now be on display again as part of this important visit.”
Melissa Parke MP, Member for Fremantle, extended a very warm welcome to the audience members and invited them to make the most of Western Australia’s genuine hospitality.
“Oprah’s audience members are in for an absolute treat during their visit here in Western Australia,” Ms Parke said.
“Today audience members had the opportunity to discover Kings Park and the Botanic Gardens, enjoy a traditional Welcome to Country and Indigenous heritage tour, plus a scenic helicopter flight to Fremantle, one of the best-preserved 19th Century townscapes in the world. They have been sustained in their travels by enjoying abeer tasting at the Little Creatures microbrewery and a fish and chip dinner on Cottesloe beach.
“Tourism generates $3.8 billion dollars for Western Australia’s economy. With the strong economy and high Australian dollar more Australians are choosing to holiday overseas at the same time that more international visitors are coming to Australia.
“Oprah’s Ultimate Australia Adventure will encourage more visitors to Australia but it will also remind Australians that some of the best holiday destinations in the world can be found right here in our own back yard.
“I encourage more Australians to head to Western Australia for their holidays and follow in the footsteps of Oprah’s audience.”
