Audience members from “The Oprah Winfrey Show” have begun their journey discovering the incredible natural experiences of Kangaroo Island.

Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP said that Tourism Australia, in partnership with the South Australian Tourism Commission and industry partners, has put together a truly exciting program of activities to showcase the world class tourism experiences on offer on Kangaroo Island.

“Audience members have the opportunity to experience one of Australia’s great natural wonders and wildlife sanctuaries,” Minister Ferguson said.

“Activities will offer our American visitors the opportunity to walk amongst Australian native animals guided by local experts and learn about local flora, fauna and coastline ecosystems.

“Kangaroo Island is one of Australia’s great natural wonders, as well as one of its best, and most surprising tourism destinations. It is a wildlife sanctuary without fences where visitors can see Australian animals in their natural habitat.

Senator the Hon Penny Wong, Minister for Finance and Deregulation, extended a very warm welcome to the audience members and invited them to make the most of South Australia’s famous hospitality.

“Oprah’s audience members are in for an absolute treat during their visit to South Australia,” Senator Wong said.

“Yesterday audience members arrived on Kangaroo Island and enjoyed a scenic cliff top walk along the island’s rugged coast with many more highlights to look forward to over the next few days.

“Tourism generates $2.3 billion dollars for the South Australian economy. With the strong economy and high Australian dollar more Australians are choosing to holiday overseas at the same time that more international visitors are coming to Australia.

“Oprah’s Ultimate Australia Adventure will encourage more visitors to Australia but it will also remind Australians that some of the best holiday destinations in the world can be found right here in our own back yard.

“I encourage more Australians to head to Kangaroo Island for their holidays and follow in the footsteps of Oprah’s audience.”
