The Australian Government has today welcomed over 300 audience members from the Oprah Winfrey Show who arrived in Sydney this morning to commence their Ultimate Australian Adventure.
The visit will form part of the final season of the internationally acclaimed talk show culminating in the filming of two episodes at the Opera House on 14 December 2010.
During their visit to Australia, audience members will travel to all states and territories and a third episode of the show will highlight experiences from around the country.
Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP said the exposure Australia will gain as an “ultimate” tourism destination should not be underestimated.
“Oprah is a household name, not just in the United States but in the 145 countries where the show is broadcast,” Minister Ferguson said.
“That Oprah has chosen Australia as her Ultimate Adventure destination sends a powerful message to her millions of fans around the world.
“Most importantly it shows that a holiday downunder is not just doable but very desirable.
“There are a diverse range of audience members, ranging in age from 18 to 75 and, in partnership with the State and Territory tourism organisations, we will show that an Australia holiday offers something for everyone.
“Oprah’s Ultimate Australian Adventure will also be a revelation for Australians – highlighting the world class experiences on offer in our own back yard.
“The Australian Government is encouraging Australians to holiday at home and the filming of the Oprah Winfrey Show in some of Australia’s most impressive regional, as well as metropolitan holiday destinations, will help remind everyone of the many things to see and do across this vast continent.
“I extend a very warm welcome to the audience members, cast and crew of the Oprah Winfrey Show.”
Over 12,000 Australians will have the opportunity to watch the filming of the two shows at the Opera House live on 14 December 2010. The episodes will go to air in Australia and the US in January 2011.
