The Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP, has today announced three new appointees to the Board of Tourism Australia.
Geoff Dixon, Kate Lamont, and Sandra McPhee will join the Board in July. I have also appointed Mr Dixon to the role of Deputy Chair.
Minister Ferguson thanks the out-going Board members, Andrew Burnes, Peter Burnett, and Jane Jeffreys for their hard work and acknowledges their significant contributions.
Minister Ferguson said: "Mr Dixon, Ms Lamont, and Ms McPhee join Tourism Australia at a very important time.
"The coming year is shaping as a very challenging one for our industry due to the impacts of the global recession, which is reducing discretionary income, travel, and tourism throughout all western economies.
"These individuals bring a wealth of experience and new skills to this very important body and I look forward to working with them to continue to lift the performance of Tourism Australia in these challenging times."
Geoff Dixon recently stepped down as Qantas Airways CEO. He also has considerable experience at board level in the media, general business and philanthropic sectors with Consolidated Media Holdings Limited, Crown Limited, the Business Council of Australia, Mission Australia and the Starlight Foundation.
Kate Lamont is currently the Chair of Tourism Western Australia and a Director of the Committee for Perth. She is a past winner of the WA Telstra Business Woman of the Year.
Sandra McPhee currently serves on the board of Australia Post, AGL Energy Limited, St Vincent's and Mater Health, and as Vice President of The Art Gallery of NSW. She has previously held non-executive director roles at The Coles Group Ltd, CARE Australia, Perpetual Ltd and South Australia Water.
