The Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson AM MP, is today travelling to China seeking to accelerate the development and deployment of clean energy technologies in the Asia-Pacific region.
Minister Ferguson will attend the Third Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate's Ministerial Conference in Shanghai on Tuesday 27 October alongside representatives of Canada, China, India, Japan, Korea and the United States.
The conference provides an opportunity for Australia to engage with major developed and developing countries to discuss climate change, energy security and air pollution challenges in the Asia-Pacific region. Minister Ferguson said that the Asia Pacific Partnership is an important forum to achieve economic and clean development objectives for the future.
"The Asia-Pacific Partnership is addressing clean energy and climate change issues that affect not only our region but the globe as a whole. By sharing ideas and working together, members of the Asia-Pacific Partnership are progressing the region's transition to a cleaner, low-carbon future," Minister Ferguson said.
This meeting follows Minister Ferguson's recent attendance at the Third Ministerial Conference of the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum and International Energy Agency Governing Board meetings in London and Paris, where the Minister outlined Australia's vision of energy security for the 21st century and called for greater urgency in efforts to deploy carbon capture and storage technologies.
On Monday 26 October, Minister Ferguson will address the Shanghai branch of the Australian Chamber of Commerce. He will also meet with the Vice-Mayor of Shanghai responsible for tourism, Ms Zhao Wen and the Chairman of the Shanghai Tourism Commission, Mr Dao Shu Ming.
