THE HON GREG COMBET AM MP
Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency
THE HON MARTIN FERGUSON AM MP
Minister for Resources and Energy
The Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Greg Combet, and the Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson, today announced further details of the two subgroups of the Business Roundtable on Climate Change.
Both will be jointly led by Mr Combet and Mr Ferguson. The groups will ensure there is further direct consultation between the government and affected industries on these significant areas of reform. The Government is determined to act on climate change: to reduce carbon pollution and transition the economy towards a clean and low emissions energy future.
The Government announced the groups yesterday, March 23. Both groups will comprise existing members of the Business Roundtable who will be joined by additional participants. Their names are attached.
The Industry Transitional Assistance Working Group will provide industry feedback to the Government on the introduction of a carbon price, appropriate transitional assistance arrangements for emissions‑intensive, trade‑exposed industries and the unique circumstances faced by industries such as the liquefied natural gas and coal industries. Advice from the working group will feed into the Business Roundtable, and inform the positions that the Government takes to the Multi‑Party Climate Change Committee (MPCCC).
The Energy Sector Working Group will provide industry feedback to the Government on the introduction of a carbon price and appropriate transitional arrangements for the energy sector to ensure energy security and reliability is maintained. Advice from the working group will feed into the Business Roundtable, and inform the positions that the Government takes to the Multi‑Party Climate Change Committee (MPCCC).
